PORT ORCHARD -- A 24-year-old woman who had moved across the state to escape from her 38-year-old ex-boyfriend was kidnapped and beaten in a bloody assault Saturday morning after the boyfriend found her living with her grandparents.

The man later was arrested by Kitsap County sheriff's deputies after he fell asleep as he was beating the woman, enabling her to get away from him and flag down help.

Deputy Scott Wilson of the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office said the woman's ordeal began at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when the ex-boyfriend showed up at her grandparents' house in Port Ludlow.

The young woman had moved there earlier from Pasco with her young son to get away from the ex-boyfriend, who is identified on the jail roster as Larry D. Buck.

When the ex-boyfriend showed up at her grandparents' place, he grabbed the woman and held a knife to her throat, threatening to harm her family if she didn't leave with him, Wilson said.

He forced her into his car, drove away, then beat her "into a mess," Wilson said. After that, the boyfriend headed south into Kitsap County and pulled over on SW Berry Lake Road, outside Port Orchard, to beat her again.

He fell asleep at about 5:45 a.m., enabling the woman to escape from the car, and run away.

She flagged down a newspaper delivery driver, who called 911 to report a woman covered in blood on the side of the road.

When deputies arrived, the suspect was still asleep. He claimed to have no idea why the woman was beaten, or why her clothes and bra were torn, Wilson said.

Buck was arrested and booked into Kitsap County jail for investigation of domestic violence kidnapping and assault. He is being held on $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

The woman was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for treatment of facial lacerations, bruising and possible facial fractures.
