The Washington State Liquor Control Board and the Washington
State Department of Agriculture recently released their list of acceptable
pesticide products that may be used to produce recreational marijuana. Any
grower caught using an unauthorized pesticide is in violation of WAC 314-55-520
and could result in the cancelation of their license.
According to WAC 314-55-010(13), a pesticide is "any substance or mixture of substances
intended to prevent, destroy, control, repel, or mitigate any insect, rodent,
snail, slug, fungus, weed, and any other form of plant or animal life or virus,
except virus on or in a living person or other animal which is normally
considered to be a pest, and any substance or mixture of substances intended to
be used as a plant regulator, defoliant, or desiccant; and any spray
adjuvant."
It is important for everyone involved in the marijuana
production chain to understand the pesticide rules and the acceptable
pesticides that may be used. The WSDA recommends that pesticides be crosschecked
with the over 200 pesticides that are allowed to be used in marijuana
production.
